Men's Soccer Suffers OT Defeat

Box Score

Fordham's Tommy Granot scored the golden goal in the 99th minute as the Rams defeated Siena Men's Soccer 2-1 in overtime Friday on the opening day of the Dunkin' Donuts Brown Soccer Classic. Sindre Ek scored his fourth goal in as many games late in the second half for the Saints, forcing overtime.

Fordham (2-2) out-shot the Saints (2-2) 22-12 and had all four shots in overtime. After hitting the post four minutes into the extra session, Granot made good on his next attempt. He took a feed from Nathaniel Bekoe and Michael Valencia and put it past the Saints' Damian Liesemann for the win.

Ek sent the game to OT with a brilliant finish in the 79th minute. Fellow Scandinavian Daniel Alderstad fed a pass to the right of goal to Ek who fired it home. The goal, Ek's 14th of his career, moved him into a four-way tie for ninth on the program's all-time goals list.

All the scoring came after halftime when Valencia put the Rams out front in the 52nd minute. The Saints fell to 0-3-1 all-time against Fordham, with three of the four games having gone to overtime.

Siena held a 9-5 advantage in corners and Liesemann finished with six saves. Sean Brailey made three stops for the Rams.

Siena, which plays the first five games of the 2012 season away from home, concludes that grueling early stretch Sunday. The Saints battle Cleveland State at noon on the final day of the Dunkin' Donuts Brown Soccer Classic.
