Siena Men's Cross County came in eighth place and the women were 10th at the MAAC Cross Country Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. Tom Higgins was the top men's finisher coming in 28th overall, while Christie MacFarlaneran 17th for the women.

Iona won the men's championship, followed by Canisius, Rider, Fairfield, Monmouth, Marist, Quinnipiac, Siena, Manhattan, Niagara and Saint Peter's. Higgins completed the men's 8K course in a time of 27:19.

"Fourth place was there for the taking on the men's side and we weren't able to take it," said head coach John Kenworthy. "NCAA Regionals is a chance at redemption for that group."

Sal Wright (27:24) finished just behind Higgins in 31st place, while Nick Grudev(27:36) rounded out the top-3 men's finishers.

The Gaels also won on the women's side and were followed by Quinnipiac, Marist, Monmouth, Rider, Canisius, Fairfield, Niagara, Manhattan, the Saints and Saint Peter's.

"I thought the women had a really solid day," added Kenworthy. "The MAAC is incredibly deep and the scores don't justify how well they ran. All five of our scorers had their best races of the season."

MacFarlane again paced the Saints' pack, running the 6K course in a time of 23:30. Freshmen Kelly Pasko (24:45) and Shannon Bauer(25:59) joined the sophomore MacFarlane among the Saints' top-three finishers.

"Christie had herself in position for All-MAAC late in the race and although she couldn't hold off a couple of competitors for a top-15 finish, she's shown she'll be a threat for the next two years," added Kenworthy.

Siena also had 16 runners honored with MAAC All-Academic Team recognition, reserved for student athletes which have completed at least one full year at their institution and possess a cumulative GPA on 3.2 or higher. Men's awardees were seniors Devin Bennett, Ryan Egan Brendan Gregg and Mike Thomas, junior Nick Grudev and sophomores Taylor Davis, Sean Fogarty and Tom Higgins. Women's honorees were senior Sarah Palmer, juniors Caroline Bertholf, Christine Heaney and Chelsea Needham and sophomores Charlotte Brunjes, Catherine Carbeck and Christie MacFarlane.

The Saints run twice more this fall with their next event the NCAA Northeast Regional Nov. 15 back at Van Cortlandt Park.
