The Seawolves' nationally ranked scoring trio of Janine Hillier, Demmianne Cook and Claire Petersen combined for 18 points as No. 15/16 Stony Brook raced past Siena Women's Lacrosse 18-5 Sunday afternoon at Siena Turf Field. Katie Maguire led the Saints with a pair of goals.
Stony Brook (8-2) scored the game's first five goals and took a commanding 13-3 lead at the half. The Seawolves, which led the nation in scoring margin entering the week, scored all 18 of their goals in the game's first 41 minutes.
Playing for the first time at home in 25 days and hosting their first nationally ranked opponent in program history, Siena (1-8) fell to 0-3 all-time vs. ranked teams. Stony Brook, who's only two losses this season are to top-3 ranked teams Maryland and Florida, entered the week ranked 15th nationally in the IWLCA Coaches' Poll and 16th in the deBeer Media Poll.
Stony Brook out-shot the Saints 31-14 and held a 16-9 edge in draw controls in improving to 5-0 all-time against the Saints. The Seawolves also scored on six of their eight free-position shots.
Cook, who entered the week ranking second nationally in goals per game, tallied all six of her goals in the first 22 minutes and added five draw controls. Petersen, who ranks fourth in points per game, tallied five points while Hillier led the way with seven points on five goals and two assists.
Ashley Ruchalski, Lauren Smith and Shannon Pfohl joined Maguire as the Saints' goal scorers. Smith added a game-high six draw controls for the Saints which lost their seventh in a row.
Siena returns to action Saturday when they welcome defending MAAC Regular Season Champion Fairfield to Loudonville in the conference opener. Game time is set for noon.
