Final Stats
The battle for second place in the MAAC didn't last long Sunday in the ARC. Siena kept Rider out of system all day with floating serves, and Meghann Wright finished 16 of her 21 attacks with just one error on the outside in a dominant 3-0 (25-18, 25-11 and 25-16) sweep.
Siena (10-12, 8-2) hit .424 for the match, its highest attack percentage in 61 matches (10/13/12 at Loyola), but the team's serving was the story of the match.Kiara Pierre had five of Siena's nine aces, and that only tells part of the story.
Rider (12-10, 6-3) struggled with its serve receive all afternoon, and rarely had a clean first pass. Bobbi Lin Kalama, Rachel Stoklosa, Erin Bies, Wright, and Haley Howell all used tough knuckling serves to keep the Broncs off balance.
Wright rounded out a double-double with 10 of Siena's 40 digs. Sonja Vasovic continued her rapid improvement with 10 kills in 15 swings without an error. Jacqueline Skeen killed six of nine attacks, and Samantha Pethokoukis killed five of eight tries in the middle.
Howell completed a tremendous week of setting with 36 assists and five blocks. She got everyone involved and the made the right decisions all day.
Stoklosa played well with six kills, seven digs and two aces. She set the tone for the match by serving the Saints to a quick 4-0 lead.
The only set that was remotely competitive was the third - it was tied 12-12 before the Saints won 13 of the last 17 points to clinch the sweep.
Rider got six kills from Jaclyn Webber who moved within four of her milestone 1,000th career kill.
The Saints now have six days to prepare for first place Marist. The Red Foxes come to town next Saturday for a 1 p.m. match that could determine a lot when it comes to the final conference standings.
