Oct. 30, 2014 LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Women's Soccer senior captain Anna Grant has been named a Capital One Academic All-District 1 First Team selection. By virtue of her selection, the Stratham, N.H. native advances to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where First, Second and Third Team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
The 2014 Capital One Academic All-District Women's Soccer Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances both athletically and in the classroom.
Grant has excelled both on the field and in the classroom throughout her four years at Siena College. Earlier this fall, she became the first student athlete in program history to be named one of just 30 Division I candidates nationally for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award. A double major in mathematics and computer science where she possesses a 3.85 and 3.92 cumulative GPA respectively, Grant has been a three-time member of Siena Athletics' 4.0 Club and has been named to both the MAAC All-Academic Team and Academic Honor Roll lists in each year of eligibility.
On the field, Grant has appeared in 65 career matches at center back making 62 starts. This season she has started in all 15 matches in which she has appeared, and anchored a Siena back line which has posted six shutouts including four over the past six matches.
Unbeaten in 12 of their last 14 matches (6-2-6) to conclude the regular season, Grant and the fifth seeded Saints face No. 4 seed Rider in the MAAC Quarterfinals Saturday night at 7 p.m. in Lawrenceville, N.J.
