Sept. 28, 2014 Final Stats
Senior captain Jacqueline Skeen killed a season-high 14 attacks, leading Siena Volleyball to an impressive 3-0 road sweep of Manhattan (28-26, 27-25, 25-14) in Riverdale. Junior captain Meghann Wright added her third double-double in four conference matches for the Saints with 10 kills and 10 digs.
Sophomore setter Haley Howell added 36 assists and classmate Bobbi Lin Kalama tied a season-high with 25 digs for a second straight match for the Saints (5-10, 3-1) which have won four of five after losing nine of 10 to begin the year.
The first two sets were tightly contested, with Siena grinding out two-point wins in each. The Saints rattled off four straight points to rally for a 24-21 lead late in the first set, but Manhattan (8-6, 2-2) fought off three straight set points to knot the score at 24-all.
Siena would ultimately have six set points, with the libero Kalama finishing off the set with a rare kill. However, it was Kalama's defense that was the difference yet again. She averaged 8.33 digs/set - more than twice her career average - and averaged better than seven digs per set over an impressive weekend in which the Saints picked up two key MAAC road wins.
The Saints again held a late 24-22 in the second set, but the Jaspers once again fought off both set points and scored three straight to put Siena on the brink. But the Saints responded with the final three points of the set to take a commanding 2-0 lead.
The third set was all Siena as the Saints cruised to their third shutout victory of the year. Siena hit .371 in the final set and a season-best .216 for the match. Skeen led the way, hitting over 40% for the second straight match with a .435 attack percentage. Skeen also assisted on six of the Saints' blocks, of which Siena held a 9-3 advantage.
Siena also tied season-highs with eight service aces and just one error, with Howell leading the way with four aces.
Sydney Volovski paced Manhattan with 13 kills, hitting .303 and Claire Van Dyke added a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs for the Jaspers which are heading in the opposite direction after a fast start, having lost five of seven.
Siena continues its four-match conference road trip next weekend with a pair of contests in Connecticut. The Saints first face two-time defending MAAC Champion Fairfield Saturday at 1 p.m.
