Oct. 31, 2015 Final Stats
Manhattan rallied from 2-0 down to defeat Siena 3-2 (20-25, 18-25, 25-21 25-17 and 15-12) Saturday in Riverdale. The Saints played the final two sets without Briana Flagg, the MAAC's leader in kills.
Siena (14-9, 10-3) had won six straight matches and 12 consecutive sets after storming out to a 2-0 lead with dominant wins in the first two sets. Manhattan responded after intermission, and when Flagg was sidelined late in third set, the Saints never recovered.
Siena won four straight points to take a 12-11 lead in the decisive fifth set, but the Jaspers won the final four to claim the come-from-behind win.
The Saints lead Manhattan (16-11, 10-4) and Rider by half a game in the conference standings and Marist is one game back.
Siena would win a head-to-head tiebreaker with the Jaspers and Broncs. Siena won the first match with Marist in four sets, and the Red Foxes host the Saints on the final day of the regular-season November 14.
With Flagg sidelined, setter Haley Howell turned to other options to try to keep Siena on track. Right side hitter Sonja Vasovic led the Saints with 13 kills and middle Samantha Pethokoukis had 11 kills.
Howell had her 12th double-double of the season with 43 assists and 12 digs.
Siena libero Kalehua Katagiri led all players with 26 digs. Both teams played solid defense with Manhattan recording 100 digs to 99 for Siena. Bobbi Lin Kalama had 17 digs for the Saints, and Darby Taylor had 13 to go along with her eight kills.
Manhattan got a match-high 16 kills from Claire Van Dyk and Milena Janjusevic. The Jaspers had eight service aces.
Siena will try to get back on track Sunday at Iona. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
