QUEENSBURY, N.Y. - Ally Adams and Mallory Collins scored four goals apiece as Boston University defeated Siena Women's Lacrosse 13-9 in the season-opener for both teams at the Adirondack Sports Complex. With temperatures stuck in the single digits in Loudonville, the Saints' 2015 lid lifter was moved an hour north of campus to the indoor facility.
Junior attack Sarah Croutier netted a hat trick to lead the Saints, while senior midfielder Erin Mossop added a pair of free-position goals for Siena which came up just short for Bryana Borrelli in her head coaching debut.
The Terriers held a commanding 32-19 edge in shots, but the game was close throughout. BU scored twice late in the first half to take a 5-3 lead at the break following a defensive opening 30 minutes.
Both team's offenses came to life out of the lockerroom however, as the squads combined for 11 goals in the first 12 and a half minutes of the second half. The final goal of the spurt, a Croutier free-position tally, pulled the Saints within 10-9 with 17:40 to play.
But Siena would be shut out the rest of the way as the Terriers scored three insurance goals late to secure the win.
Senior Danielle DeLisio and junior Ashley Holdridge each played a half in goal, making four and six saves respectively. Senior captain Julia Sirianni posted team-highs of five draw controls, four groundballs and two caused turnovers for the Saints.
Jill Horka contributed two goals and an assist and added nine draw controls, three groundballs and a pair of caused turnovers for BU.
The Saints are back in action Tuesday when the face defending Northeast Conference Champion Bryant for a 1 p.m. opening draw in Smithfield, R.I.
