The Siena Water Polo team began the 2015 season with a road contest against host Bucknell in the Bison Invitational. The Bison would win the tightly played game, 10-7.
The Saints would jump out to a 2-1 lead through the first quarter behind two goals by Senior Stephanie Bundas. Siena's leading returning goal scorer lit the net with 6:21 remaining in the first and after the Bison tied the game 1-1, gave the Saints the lead again with 2:01 remaining in the first.
In the second, Siena would extend their lead to two on a goal by freshman Clare Bryar just 35 seconds in to the quarter. The Bison would tie the game 3-3 by the one-minute mark on goals by Martine McCarthy and Marta Considine.
Bucknell would gain a 5-3 lead in the third quarter until Bundas' third goal with 1:34 remaining would pull the Saints back within one. The Saints would then tie the game 6-6 in the fourth on another Bundas goal with 6:21 remaining. The Bison would score the next three goals to take a three-point lead, before the teams would exchange goals to end the game with a 10-7 victory for the Bison.
Senior goalie Madeline Hurley recorded 15 saves in net for the Saints, while Bryar lead the team with four steals. Taylor Young and Kori Swieter recorded three and two assists, respectively, to help the cause. The Saints are back in action tomorrow with a game against George Washington at 9:15 a.m. and Hartwick at 3:30 p.m.
