March 16, 2015 LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Women's Soccer Head Coach Steve Karbowski has announced his program's 2015 captains as well as the Saints' spring schedule. Rising seniors Allison Clark, Kirby O'Keefe and Michelle Yanniello have been tabbed tri-captains to lead the 2015 Saints.
"Allison, Kirby and Michelle have developed into strong leaders and will represent a committed senior class and dedicated team for the 2015 season," said Karbowski, who recently completed his 16th season as the Saints' head coach. "Each of them have improved as players and established valuable roles on the field. They carry themselves with high character and integrity each day amongst the Siena Community. They all lead by example and have earned the respect of their teammates and coaches and will be first class representatives of the program."
A native of Bryn Mawr, Pa., Clark started all 20 matches at outside back last fall. She ranked second on the squad logging 1,908 of a possible 1,927 minutes and notched her first career point on an assist. Clark has appeared in 46 matches making 33 starts over her first three seasons and has been tabbed both a MAAC All-Academic Team and Academic Honor Roll selection each of the past two seasons.
O'Keefe also started all 20 matches last season at midfield and registered her first two collegiate goals and four points. The Wethersfield, Conn. product was one of four Saints to both appear in and start all 20 matches last fall and tied for third on the squad with 22 shots. O'Keefe too has excelled in the classroom in being named both a MAAC All-Academic Team and Academic Honor Roll selection each of the past two seasons.
Yanniello, who hails from Kings Park, N.Y., both appeared in and started 19 matches last fall. She tied for the team lead with two game-winning goals and finished with six points overall on a pair of goals and assists overall. Like her fellow captains, Yanniello has also been named both a MAAC All-Academic Team and Academic Honor Roll selection each of the past two seasons.
The newly appointed tri-captains will get their first opportunity to lead the squad in five spring matches. The Saints open with road tilts at Fairleigh Dickinson Mar. 28 (12 p.m.), Southern New Hampshire Mar. 29 (1 p.m.) and American International College Apr. 11 (1 p.m.).
Siena concludes its spring season with home matches against LeMoyne Apr. 18 (4 p.m.) and crosstown rival UAlbany Apr. 19. The Saints face the Great Danes at 1 p.m., with the annual Alumni Game to follow at 3 p.m.
"We're looking forward to a competitive schedule of spring games," noted Karbowski. "The team has been working hard and these games will be an opportunity to evaluate players individually and the team as a whole. The spring enables us to set goals and develop this team's identity and character as well as build confidence leading into the fall."
The Saints went unbeaten in 12 of their final 15 matches last fall to finish with a 7-7-6 overall record and place fifth in the MAAC with a 4-2-4 conference mark. Siena is expected to return eight starters and eight of their top-nine scorers in addition to welcoming six incoming freshmen this fall.
