Saints Come Up Just Short

The Siena Water Polo team came just short of earning their first conference victory Sunday losing to St. Francis (NY) 10-9. In the second game of the day the Saints loss to Marist 17-3.

St. Francis led 4-1 after the first quarter of play but the Saints managed to outscore them 8-6 over the remaining three quarters. Stephanie Bundas scored Siena's first two goals before being ejected with a misconduct foul in the second quarter.

Playing without their leading scorer Jacquelyn Verdon and Clare Bryar combined to score six of the remaining eight goals for the Saints. Jasmine Carillo scored with 15 seconds left, but the Saints ran out of time and would lose the game.

In the second game Siena two Bundas goals in the first quarter found the Saints trailing Marist 3-2 after one. But the Red Foxes would outscore Siena by 13 over the remaining quarters, including seven fourth quarter goals.

MAAC play continues next Saturday at VMI, where the Saints will play VMI at 9 a.m. and Iona at 2:30 p.m.
