March 7, 2015 Final Stats
Despite scoring the last three goals Siena Women's Lacrosse came up just short Saturday, falling to defending NEC Champion Bryant 9-8. Lauren Smith led all Saints recording a hat trick on the afternoon.
In a game that featured five ties and five lead changes, neither team could gain the edge in the first half. Siena (1-4) held the lead at 2-1 after a Sarah Croutier goal in the first half and 4-3 on a Smith goal with 6:35 remaining in the half. Bryant (3-2) would score the last two goals of the half and would go into the locker room with a 5-4 advantage.
Shannon O'Connor got the Saints back on the board in the second half tying the game at five. The Bulldogs would then rattle off four consecutive goals, including three by Emily Columbus to jump out to a comfortable 9-5 lead.
Siena would not go down without a fight, however. O'Connor scored her second goal of the game with 10:07 remaining to begin the late run. With 2:59 remaining Alyssa Treanor scored a goal off a free position shot and Smith completed her hat trick with 2:19 remaining to pull the Saints within one. It was too little, too late, however, as Bryant held on for the 9-8 victory.
The Saints return home Wednesday, to host UMASS-Lowell at 3 p.m at Siena Turf Field. It will be the first of three Women's Lacrosse Siena All-Access broadcasts. For more information visit SienaAllAccess.com
