LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Three different Saints scored hat tricks as Siena Women's Lacrosse held off a late rally from Manhattan to defeat the Jaspers 15-14 at Siena Turf Field. The teams combined for 66 shots, 49 of which were on goal, in the shootout.
Briana Sirianni, Lauren Smith and Alyssa Treanor all tallied hat tricks for the Saints (6-5, 1-1). Senior midfielder Erin Mossop led the scoring with four points on a pair of goals and assists for Siena which has won five of six.
After Manhattan (2-9, 0-3) opened the scoring, the Saints responded with the next four goals including the final three of which came over a 30-second span. Following a timeout, the Jaspers would score three times in 1:51 to knot the score and the teams would ultimately head into the lockerroom tied 7-7.
Siena opened the second half with the first two goals to wrestle the lead back for good and led by as many as three goals on three separate occasions in the final stanza. Sirianni scored what ultimately proved to be the decisive tally, marking her third game-winning goal in the Saints' six wins this spring.
But Manhattan stuck around and scored twice in 19 seconds in the final half minute to make things interesting late. However, senior captain Julia Sirianni won the decisive draw control with 9.8 seconds to go and was able to run out the final seconds. Sirianni added two goals while contributing a season-high nine draw controls and a career-high five caused turnovers.
Donna Jo DiNorcia led all scorers with seven points on six goals for Manhattan which registered its best offensive performance of the season. Megan Yarusso added four goals for the Jaspers which have lost six straight.
The Saints return to action Saturday with a noon draw at Monmouth.
