LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Senior captain Richie Hurley scored a season-high six points as Siena Lacrosse snapped a three-game losing streak with an important 14-6 win over Manhattan at Siena Turf Field. With the win, the Saints move into a three-way tie for third place in the MAAC Standings with two conference games remaining. The top-four teams qualify for the MAAC Championships.
Hurley netted a hat trick and added three assists in taking over sole possession of third place in program history in assists (85) and seventh in scoring (166). He was one of six Saints (5-6, 2-2) to tally three points or more as Siena posted its second highest scoring output of the season.
Playing for the first time in 11 days, Siena scored six unanswered goals bridging the halves to open a commanding 10-3 lead midway through the third quarter. Senior captain Conor Prunty, who added four points, delivered a key blow scoring with just six tenths of a second remaining in the first half to give Siena momentum and a 6-3 lead at the break.
Sophomore attack Jordan Barlow netted a hat trick and senior captain Ryan Mallon, classmate Nate Barry and sophomore midfielder Jon-Michael Tokar all contributed three points apiece for the Saints which won their 10th in a row over Manhattan (1-12, 0-4).
The Saints out-shot the Jaspers 42-37 and controlled possession, holding a dominant 35-22 edge in groundballs including a game-high eight from Casey Dowd. The Saints' senior faceoff specialist also won nine faceoffs to move into sixth place in NCAA Division I history with 730 career wins at the X.
Three goalies saw action for Siena, with senior Nick Capalbo playing the first half and making eight saves while allowing just three goals to earn the win.
Alex Abiog was the lone Jasper to post a multiple-point performance in scoring two goals for Manhattan which has now dropped all 10 of its road contests.
The Saints continue their four-game homestand Saturday when they host rival Detroit on Senior Day at 1 p.m.
