LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Junior attack Sarah Croutier scored a game-high five points as Siena Women's Lacrosse dominated Iona 11-5 on Senior Day at Siena Turf Field. The Saints out-shot the Gaels 32-18 and held an equally decisive 12-5 edge in draw controls.
Siena (7-7, 2-3) set the tone early, shutting out Iona (5-9, 1-5) in the first half and ultimately held the Gaels' potent offensive attack scoreless for the first 31:12. As a result, the Saints took a 4-0 lead at the half after out-shooting Iona 18-4 in the opening stanza.
Siena would go on another four-goal run midway through the second half to open as much as an eight-goal cushion in earning its sixth straight win over Iona.
Croutier scored a season-high four goals and added four groundballs for the Saints. Sophomore midfielder Cara McQuillan netted her second consecutive hat trick and senior midfielder Erin Mossop contributed a season-high three assists for Siena.
Senior goalie Danielle DeLisio went the distance making six saves in quarterbacking a Siena defense which shut down the MAAC's leading goal scorer Erin Pugh and leader in assists Mary Kate McCormick. Pugh netted just two goals and McCormick managed only two assists as the duo was stifled by the Saints throughout. Blaire Nathanson made nine saves for the Gaels.
The Saints return to action Wednesday for a 4 p.m. opening draw against MAAC rival Marist in Poughkeepsie.
