Siena Women's Lacrosse scored eight unanswered goals to nearly overcome an 11-goal second half deficit, but ultimately came up just short in a 15-12 loss at four-time defending MAAC Champion Canisius. Senior midfielder Erin Mossop led the Saints with four points, with Mossop and sophomore midfielder Cara McQuillan each netting hat tricks.

Senior attack Alyssa Treanor added two goals for the Saints (6-7, 1-3) and became the 10th player in the program's 19-year history - and second this season - to eclipse 100 career points. Junior attack Sarah Croutier previously joined the Century Club in the Saints' win at LIU Brooklyn Mar. 21. Treanor was one of three players to tally their 100th career points in the game as Canisius' (8-5, 5-0) Meghan Cuddy and Taylor Giglio also reached the milestone.

The Golden Griffins scored the first nine goals over the opening 16:33 and ultimately took a commanding 12-3 lead at the half. Canisius would extend its advantage to as many as 11 goals, 14-3, with 23:40 remaining.

Despite the sizeable deficit, the resilient Saints fought back. Siena responded with the next eight goals over 17:14 to rally within three, 14-11, on Mossop's third goal of the day with 3:21 to play. But Canisius' Erica Evans, who was one of three Golden Griffins to register hat tricks, ended the Saints' impressive run to push the lead back to four with 85 seconds left as Siena's furious rally fell just short.

Four of Siena's goals during the rally came on free-position attempts, as the Saints went an impressive 6-8 on eight-meter shots overall while Canisius failed to register a single attempt. The Saints have now outscored their opponents 48-18 on free-position goals this season.

Tori Quinn led all scorers with six points on three goals and three assists for Canisius which has won seven in a row. Lauren Smolensky added a hat trick and Cuddy contributed two goals and three assists for the Golden Griffins which have won the past 10 meetings between the programs.

The Saints return to action Saturday for the backend of a Siena Lacrosse doubleheader when they host Iona at 4 p.m. at Siena Turf Field. The Saints' will be celebrating Senior Day and will honor the program's six seniors in a special ceremony on the field immediately following the conclusion of the game.
