Rider scored the last four points in the fifth set to claim a 15-13 victory that sealed a 3-2 win over Siena in a matchup of the MAAC's two remaining unbeaten teams. Siena had 105 digs and 10 aces in the loss. The Rider victory snapped a 20-match win streak for the Saints in the series dating back to 2004. It's the first time the Saints have ever lost in Alumni Gymnasium.
Briana Flagg led all players with 16 kills for Siena. Kalehua Katagiri had 26 digs, and Haley Howell finished with 40 assists and 22 digs.
Kiara Pierre had a career-high six aces, including four straight to end the fourth set. Pierre had five aces in each of the two matches against the Broncs last year.
Rider controlled the action at the net, finishing with a 10-2 advantage in blocks. The Broncs got 15 kills from Hailey Riede, and 11 kills and a match-high 27 digs from Ryan Ackermann.
The Broncs held a 2-1 lead after a convincing 25-15 win in the third set, but Siena rolled to a 25-13 victory in the fourth to even the match.
The Saints held a 13-11 lead in the race to 15, but Rider got four straight kills to end the match.
Five different Siena players reached double figures in digs. Flagg rounded out her second double-double of the weekend with 17 digs, Bobbi Lin Kalama had 15 and Erin Bies finished with 10.
Sonja Vasovic finished with 13 kills on the right side, and Christina Monroe added 11 in the middle.
The Saints will try to get back to their winning ways in Western New York next weekend where they face conference rivals Niagara and Canisius.
