FORT MYERS, FL - Reigning WNIT Runners-Up Florida Gulf Coast cruised to a 66-42 victory over Siena. The Saints caused FGCU to turn the ball over 18 times, the second most turnovers this season for the Eagles.
Rosemarie Julien scored a game-high 17 points, while Taylor Gradinjan added 12. Haley Laughter, who has not seen any action this season, came off the bench and scored 11 points for the Eagles.
Senior forward Meghan Donohue scored a team-high for the fourth straight game. Donohue tallied 12 points and was a perfect four-for-four (1.000) from the charity stripe. Denisha Petty-Evans added seven points and five rebounds for the Saints.
After a tight beginning to the contest, Florida Gulf Coast took control. Once the media timeout hit the Eagles did what they do best and force their opponent to turn the ball over. The Saints trailed 17-6 after the first quarter.
The Saints came out into the second quarter with a new fire. It was a seesaw battle between the non-conference foes as neither would take control. In the final 2:55 of the quarter, Siena held the Eagles to no field goals and forced them to turn the ball over three times. Both teams scored 12 in the second quarter. The Eagles led 29-18 at the half.
The Eagles came out of the locker room hot on the court. They shot 50% (7-for-14) from the field and held the Saints to just five of 15 (33%). Siena chipped away at the lead. 39-24, but the Eagles stayed in control. At the end of the third FGCU would be up 47-32.In the final ten minutes, the Eagles continued to add to their lead. Florida Gulf Coast would end the game with a 66-42 victory over Siena.
Kollyns Scarbrough and Donohue grabbed a game-high seven rebounds each. The Saints outrebounded FGCU 40-33. Siena shot 31.4-percent from the floor and 80-percent from the free-throw line.
The Saints continue on their road trip as they head back to the North. Siena will face Sacred Heart on Monday, Dec. 12. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
