The Siena men's lacrosse team returned home from their Georgia road trip and opened their 2016 home campaign Saturday with an 11-7 victory over UMass-Lowell.
The Saints dominated the shot and ground ball categories on the afternoon. Siena outshot the River Hawks 49-28 and held a decisive advantage in ground balls (49-24).
Tyler Pantalone had an impressive day for the Saints going 14 of 16 at faceoffs and the junior from Niskayuna, N.Y. registered his first career goal with three seconds remaining in the first half. He also picked up ten groundballs to lead Siena in the category Tim Cousin recorded a career high five points scoring a hat trick and two assists.
The River Hawks jumped the scoreboard first on a goal by Blaine McMahon. Following the first goal, the Saints outscored UMass-Lowell 6-4 highlighted by two goals from Brian Prunty and the exclamation point to end the half from Pantalone.
Siena scored the lone goal in the third quarter as Jordan Barlow fired a shot on a pass from Keenan Cook to make the lead 7-5 with 7:17 remaining in the period.
The Saints distanced themselves from UMass-Lowell in the fourth as Siena outscored the River Hawks 4-2, two of which came from the stick of Tim Cousin. Neil Gollogly and Jon-Michael Tokar scored the other two.
Tommy Cordts made eight saves in the cage for Siena.
The Saints will next play Saturday March 5th for a road game at St. John's at 1 p.m.
