Bryant Nips Saints in Non-Conference Finale

March 22, 2016

Final Stats

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -- Jess DeMeo scored the go-ahead goal with 8:39 remaining and Nicole Britton capped a late three-goal rally tallying the game-winner with 4:39 to play as two-time defending Northeast Conference Champion Bryant edged Siena Women's Lacrosse 13-12 at Siena Turf Field. Senior attack Sarah Croutier tied a season-high for the Saints with her second straight five-goal game.

Lauren Anglim, Cara McQuillan and Lynnzee Miller each scored twice for Siena (5-4) which despite the loss finished non-conference play with a winning record for the second year in a row and just the fourth time in the program's 20 seasons. Freshman Samantha Horton made a season-high 10 saves in goal.

Lauren Descalzo netted four goals and finished with five points to lead Bryant (5-3) which won its 11th straight road game.

Croutier completed a natural hat trick to pull the Saints even 4-4, but the Bulldogs answered with the final three goals to take a 7-4 lead at the break. Siena came out strong to start the second half, getting all three goals back quickly to knot the score at 7-7 with 23:53 to play.

The contest would be nip and tuck thereafter with the Saints claiming one-goal leads on three separate occasions midway through the second half. But each time Bryant rallied to tie.

Siena took its final lead at 11-10 on Croutier's fifth goal of the game with 15:35 to play, but Descalzo responded with the equalizer and both DeMeo and Britton netted key scores to cap the three-goal run that put the Bulldogs back in front for good.

McQuillan pulled the Saints back within a goal with 39.9 seconds remaining and then won the ensuing draw control, but Croutier's attempt at a game-tying tally with 19 seconds to go was smothered by the Bulldogs' goalie Samantha Sateramo as the final seconds ticked away.

Sateramo finished with 12 saves for Bryant which has captured the past four meetings between the programs in what has been a tightly contested series where three of the last five matchups have been decided by a single goal. Britton and Catlin Brown each added three points for the Bulldogs which had nine different players account for their 13 goals.

The Saints return to action Saturday when they host Monmouth for the start of conference play at noon at Siena Turf Field. The game marks Siena's final regular season weekend home game and the team will honor its eight seniors in a special ceremony immediately following the conclusion of the game.
