The Siena women's lacrosse team opened up their 2016 home slate Saturday in thrilling fashion defeating Colgate by a final of 13-12. The Saints rallied from five goals down in the second half to capture the victory.
Lauren Anglim's goal with 7:51 remaining gave Siena the lead and then Ashley Ruchalski added an insurance tally to put the Saints up for good. Lynnzee Miller and Cara McQuillan netted hat tricks for Saints.
Samantha Horton recorded seven saves in goal for Siena. The Saints edged the Raiders in shots 23-22 and groundballs 14-11. Colgate held the advantage in draw controls 15-12.
The Raiders controlled play early led with a 7-2 run over the first 18 minutes of action. McQuillan and Anglim scored over the run by the Raiders.
Taylor Fischer opened the second half with a goal at 28:35 to double up the Saints, 10-5.
Siena offense was ignited with a 6-1 run over the next 19 plus minutes to tie the game at 11. McQuillan, Michelle Schwartz, Sarah Croutier, Lauren Smith, Miller and Ruchalski found the back of the net during the run.
With 7:51 remaining, Anglim's sixth goal of the season put Siena in front for the first time in the game, giving the 12-11 lead. Ruchalski's second goal of the game put the Saints up by two with 3:27 to go in regulation.
Siena continues their season-long four game homestand when the team hosts Binghamton at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
