Junior attack Michelle Schwartz scored the Saints final two goals including the game-winner and Siena Women's Lacrosse held on late to fend off Manhattan 10-9 in Riverdale. Schwartz finished with a team-high four points for the Saints which snapped a three-game losing streak by edging the Jaspers by a goal for the second straight season.
Manhattan (4-6, 0-1) out-shot Siena (6-5, 1-1) 31-16, but freshman Samantha Horton made 10 saves in a winning effort in goal for the Saints which played their third consecutive one-goal game and fourth already this season.
A seesaw affair throughout was knotted at 6-6 midway through the second half. But that's when the Saints embarked upon a 4-1 run to claim a 10-7 lead on Schwartz's second tally with an even five minutes remaining.
The Jaspers responded with two late tallies and had a chance to net the equalizer late, but Horton stopped Claire Roediger's tying attempt with 38 seconds to play to seal the deal.
Sarah Croutier, Lynnzee Miller and Lauren Smith each added a pair of goals for the Saints. Croutier finished with three points to raise her career total to 156 points and move into sole possession of second place on the program's all-time scoring charts.
Roediger tallied a hat trick and accumulated four points for Manhattan, while Molly Fitzpatrick added a pair of goals.
The Saints return to action Wednesday when they host Quinnipiac at Siena Turf Field at 4 p.m.
