April 3, 2016 The Siena water polo team was back in the pool Sunday as they fell to fellow MAAC members Marist and Villanova by finals of 16-9 and 16-7, respectively. Fiona Dretzka paced the Saints offense with five goals in the Marist game and then added a single tally in the match against Villanova. .
Game One-Marist 16, Siena 9
The Red Foxes jumped out to a 5-1 lead after the first quarter. Dretzka recorded her first of five goals on the day to get the Saints on the board. The sophomore from Northglenn, Colo., then paced the Siena offense with two goals in the second and single tallies in the third and fourth quarters, repectively. ` Clare Bryar added two markers while Taylor Young and Samantha Voelker each found the back of the net to close out the scoring in game one. Young and Bryar also had two assists apiece. On the defensive end, Nichol Feldtz registered two steals.
Carly Jackson-Clark made eight saves in goal for the Saints while Sarah Abbott tallied three.
Game Two- Villanova 16, Siena 7
Villanova erupted for 11 combined goals over the span of the second and third quarters to help the Wildcats pull away from Siena by a final of 16-7. Voelker led the team in scoring with two goals in the nightcap. Young assisted on five of the Saints' goals.
Madison Obata, Terez Touhey Dretzka, Feldtz and Bryar each recorded single tallies for Siena. Bryar led the team on the defensive end, registering five steals.
Jackson-Clark led the Saints once again in goal, making 11 saves. Abbott tallied four saves in between the pipes.
Siena (2-18, 0-6) plays their lone regular season home games Saturday when they host St. Francis Brooklyn and Iona at 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively.
