April 9, 2016 Final Stats
Alex Fehmel scored the decisive goal with 5:35 remaining as defending MAAC Tournament Champion Fairfield edged Siena Women's Lacrosse 10-9 in Connecticut. Junior attack Michelle Schwartz tallied a hat trick in another nail biter for the Saints which played to their fourth one-goal decision in the past five games.
Fairfield (6-6, 2-2) scored both the first three and final three goals of the game to win for the 20th time in the 22 all-time meetings between the programs. Siena (7-6, 2-2) scored six of its nine goals on free-position shots, shooting an efficient 6-8 on eight-meter attempts.
The Saints rallied from their early deficit to pull within 6-5 at the half. Ultimately, Siena went on a 6-1 run spanning both halves to claim a 9-7 lead on Schwartz's final tally of the afternoon with 16:18 to play.
But the Stags held the MAAC's top scoring offense off the scoreboard the rest of the way. After Fehmel scored with 13:30 remaining, Colleen Reynolds knotted the score at 9-9 with 9:47 to go. Fehmel then completed her hat trick, scoring the game-winning tally on a free-position shot to complete the comeback.
Fehmel finished with a game-high four points for Fairfield, while Reynolds also added a hat trick. Chelsey Sidaras made nine saves in goal for the Stags.
Senior attack Sarah Croutier added two goals for the Saints and freshman goalie Samantha Horton stopped 10 shots.
Siena returns to action Wednesday when they host perennial MAAC frontrunner Canisius at Siena Turf Field at 4 p.m.
