LOUDONVILLE, NY - Student athletes from the Siena Basketball teams participated in Siena Athletics' "Saints in the Community" program and Siena College National Grid Foundation "Hoops for the Stars" initiative.

The first part of the program was when the schoolchildren visited Siena College campus to attend the women's basketball's Kid's Day Game on Dec. 21.

The Saints visited three of the schools Wednesday, attending Yates Elementary and, Central Park Middle School in Schenectady and Voorheesville Elementary in Voorheesville. Student athletes preached the importance of hard work and strong academics while also interacting with students through games and drills. The Saints also discussed good sportsmanship, eating healthy and respecting others to show all the different sides it takes to be not only a Division I athlete, but a good person as well. At the conclusion of the visits, the Saints took time to sign autographs and presented students with some special Siena Saints memorabilia.

A total of 1,155 fans, nearly all of which were schoolchildren and their teachers turned out for the Eighth Annual Kid's Day Game on Dec. 21 in the Alumni Recreation Center against Harvard. During the game, CDPHP ran on-court promotions with the students geared towards making healthy choices.
