Feb. 18, 2017 Siena Water Polo opened up its 2017 season on Saturday at the Laker Invite in Erie, PA. In the first game of the day, Mercyhurst defeated the Saints 13-10. Gannon took the victory over Siena in the second game, 11-9. Junior Clare Bryar totaled seven goals in the two games for the Saints.
Game One: Mercyhurst 13, Siena 10
In the Saints' season opener, freshman Diana Fernandez notched four goals and two assists, while drawing six ejections in her collegiate debut. Bryar added three goals and one assist and Nichol Feldtz scored three goals. Kennedy Joseph saved eight shots in goal for Siena.
Game Two: Gannon 11, Siena 9
Fernandez scored twice, adding four assists, and drawing five more ejections for the Saints in the loss. Bryar led the team with four goals and one assist. Joseph made 17 saves in the net for Siena. Sarah Abbott scored two goals and Madison Obata added one more for Siena.
On Sunday, the Saints will take on George Washington at 11:15 a.m. and Saint Francis (PA) at 3:00 p.m.
