Feb. 23, 2017 Siena Water Polo opened its six game California trip Wednesday night at Whittier College. The Poets earned a 12-2 victory over the Saints. Diana Fernandez led Siena with two points in the game.
The Saints scored their first goal of the game in the second quarter on a shot by Clare Bryar. Bryar totaled one goal, two steals, and two ejections drawn in the contest.
Diana Fernandez found the back of the net in the third quarter for Siena. The freshman attacker recorded one goal, one assist, two steals, and three ejections drawn in the game. She led the Saints with eight shots.
Siena goalies Carly Jackson-Clark and Kennedy Joseph had four saves each. Joseph chipped in three steals for the Saints.
The Poets opened up a four goal advantage in the opening quarter, led by Ana Alumbaugh's two goals. Whittier held a 7-1 halftime lead. The two teams played even in the third with one goal each before the Poets outscored Siena (0-5) 4-0 in the final stanza.
The Saints will be in the Golden State for five more games. Siena will take on Redlands College Thursday, February 23 at 9 p.m. Eastern/ 6 p.m. Pacific. The Saints will compete in the Cal Lutheran Invite on Friday and Saturday, February 24 and 25 in Thousand Oaks, CA.
