March 11, 2017 Siena Water Polo competed in the Hartwick Invite on Saturday in Oneota, New York. In their first game of the day, the Saints fell 15-5 to Brown. #18 Hartwick bested the Saints 17-12 in the second and final game of the tournament. Diana Fernandez scored eight goals in two games to lead the offense.
Game One: Brown 15, Siena 5
In the Saints' first game of the day, the Brown Bears took a 15-5 victory. Fernandez continued her stellar rookie campaign with three goals and four ejections drawn for Siena (0-15). Team points leader Clare Bryar scored one goal for the Saints, while contributing three assists. Terez Touhey also scored one goal in the contest.
In goal, Carly Jackson-Clark had nine saves and one steal for the Saints' defense. Kennedy Joseph added seven saves. Fernandez led the team with two steals.
Game Two: #18 Harwick 17, Siena 12
In Siena's second game of the day, #18 Harwick escaped the Saints 17-12. The Hawks were leading 9-4 at the half, and 15-7 through three periods. Siena outscored Hartwick 5-2 in the final frame. Bryar led Siena with six goals. Fernandez added five goals, four of which came in the second half. Touhey scored one goal in the game.
Jackson-Clark saved eight shots in goal, while Joseph saved two. Nichol Feldtz led Siena with four assists. Fernandez assisted on three goals and Bryar assisted on two. Fernandez drew a team-high eight ejections.
The Saints will open up MAAC conference play next Saturday, March 18 in Villanova, Pennsylvania. Siena will face Villanova at 10:30 a.m. and VMI at 4:00 p.m.
