Water Polo Falls Twice to Start MAAC Play

Siena Water Polo opened MAAC conference play Saturday in Villanova, Pennsylvania. Host school Villanova narrowly edged past the Saints 8-6 in the opening game before VMI took down Siena 14-8 to close out the first day of conference competition. Junior Clare Bryar led the team with six goals Saturday.

Game One: Villanova 8, Siena 6

In the Saints' first game of the day, the Wildcats won a tight game over Siena 8-6. Bryar and freshman Diana Fernandez scored two goals each to lead the offense for the Saints. Nichol Feldtz and Daniella Fuertes netted one score each for Siena.

Bryar led the Saints (0-17, 0-2) with three assists, with Terez Touhey and Madison Obata adding one each. Fernandez led Siena with two ejections drawn. In goal, Kennedy Joseph recorded nine saves. Joseph also contributed one assist and one steal for the Saints.

Game Two: VMI 14, Siena 8

In Siena's second game of the day, the Keydets bested the Saints 14-8. Bryar continued to lead the Saints' offense, netting four goals. Fernandez added three goals and Touhey scored one for Siena.

Obata assisted on three goals for the Saints. Fernandez, Fuertes, and Bryar chipped in one assist each in the contest. Joseph totaled 11 saves in goal for the defense. Fernandez added five steals in the loss.

The Saints will continue MAAC play with four games next weekend. Siena will take on Wagner at 12 p.m. and St. Francis Brooklyn at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 25 in Poughkeepise, New York. The Saints will then host VMI at 10:30 a.m. and Villanova at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 26 in Loudonville. The team's three seniors will be honored before the 4 p.m. game.
