Track Takes Fifth In Outdoor Opener

March 25, 2017

The Siena Men's and Women's Track program got the outdoor season started off on the right foot at the Monmouth Season Opener in West Long Branch, New Jersey. Both the men and women finished fifth overall out of nine teams.

"Today was a great surprise, to be honest," said head coach John Kenworthy. "We are always gambling with weather and conditions this early in the spring season but today was perfect. Monmouth set up some great fields for fast times and we took advantage. The spring is off to a fantastic start and we are building from here."

The women recorded an outdoor school record in every event they competed in today. Kelly Russo took a first place finish in the mile to start the day off right for the Saints. The senior finished the mile in 5:58.72.

Sophomore Sarah Forman finished second in the 1500m with a 4:36.44 finish. Forman set a Siena school record with the time. Meghan McDonough took 21st place with a personal best time of 5:02.10. Ursula Svoboda, Abbi Wright and Agnes Eigo all finished with personal records that landed on the Siena Top-10. On the men's side, Luciano Fiore took 21st place with a 4:08.91 finish.

On the women's side, Siena took four top-10 finishes in the 3000m with Shannon Bauer taking second. Bauer finished the race in 10:14.63 which is a Siena outdoor best and personal record. Serena Rizzo, Carolyn Pellegrini and Sydney Sericolo finished in respective places of seventh, eighth and ninth. Rizzo, Pellegrini and Sericolo finished in 10:28.93, 10:29.38 and 10:30.42, respectively. Rizzo and Pellegrini ran personal records in the race.

On the men's side in the 3000m, Travis Fairlee took a second place finish with an outdoor Siena record and personal best 8:40.24. Paolo Fiore finished in eighth with a time of 8:51.39, while Michael Rautter took 11th with a time of 8:55.00.

Kelly Pasko finished fourth in the 5000m with her 17:17.52 finish and took the Siena record for the 5km. Dominica Bleichert wasn't too far behind in ninth with a time of 18:00.92. In her 5000m debut, Camryn Johnson finished in 18:39.
