March 25, 2017 Siena Water Polo continued MAAC conference play with a split on Saturday in Poughkeepsie, New York. #17 Wagner topped the Saints 19-2 in game one before Siena took the win 9-6 over St. Francis Brooklyn in the final game of the day. Freshman Diana Fernandez led the team with five goals and nine ejections drawn.
Game One: #17 Wagner 19, Siena 2
In the Saints' first game of the day, the Seahawks continued their strong start to MAAC play, besting Siena (1-18, 1-3) 19-2 after taking a 10-0 lead at the half. Madison Obata and Fernandez each netted one goal.
Fernandez drew four ejections in the contest. Senior Carly-Jackson Clark had seven saves, while Kennedy Joseph added four saves.
Game Two: Siena 9, St. Francis Brooklyn 6
In Siena's second game of the day, the Saints took the victory for the first time this season. Fernandez and Clare Bryar netted four goals each with Daniella Fuertes chipping in one goal for the offense. Bryar also added four assists and drew three ejections.
Siena was leading 3-1 at the half, before scoring five goals in the third quarter to lead 8-4 to start the fourth. Carly Jackson-Clark saved 15 shots from the Terriers to get the win for the Saints in goal. Fernandez drew five more ejections in the game.
The Saints will continue MAAC play with two games on Sunday, March 26. Siena will host VMI at 10:30 a.m. and Villanova at 4 p.m. in Loudonville. The team's three seniors will be honored before the 4 p.m. game.
