September 2018 Leo Dufort Student Athletes of the Month Announced

Men's Soccer's McGlynn, Women's Soccer's Holtzman Honored

LOUDONVILLE, NY - Women's soccer senior Amanda Holtzman and men's soccer junior captain Conor McGlynn were selected as the first Leo Dufort Student Athletes of the Month for the 2018-19 school year, winning the award for the month of September. The duo has continued to excel both on the field and in the classroom.

A Preseason All-MAAC selection, Holtzman has appeared in all 14 matches to date for the Saints while making 13 starts. The right back has anchored a Siena defense which currently ranks both second in the MAAC in goals against average (1.02) and shutouts. A 2017 United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-Region selection and First Team All-MAAC honoree, The Avon, Connecticut was previously named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team following her freshman campaign in 2015.

Holtzman has been named to both the MAAC All-Academic Team and Academic Honor Roll each of the past two seasons. She currently maintains a solid 3.31 cumulative grade point average while majoring in psychology.

A team captain for the second straight season, McGlynn has started all 12 matches to date at midfield and dished out an assist while leading the squad with 21 shots. A unanimous 2016 MAAC All-Rookie Team selection, the Middle Village, New York native currently ranks tied for eighth all-time in program history with 12 career assists.

McGlynn has been named to both the MAAC All-Academic Team and Academic Honor Roll in each year of eligibility. He currently possesses a 3.74 cumulative GPA while majoring in psychology.

The Leo Dufort Student Athlete of the Month Award is presented nine times annually (September-May) throughout the academic year. The award recognizes exemplary achievements in both academics and athletics. The late Leo Dufort received a B.S. in marketing and management from Siena in August of 1977. His entire academic career was completed on a part-time basis beginning in the spring of 1961, as a married adult while at the same time raising five children. He passed away suddenly of a heart attack while cross country skiing in February of 1993. His wife Jeanine wanted to do something to immortalize his memory. The original plaque was donated to athletics and the department began the Leo Dufort Student Athlete of the Month Award to help carry out his legacy. Dufort graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1954, and was a Navy Veteran (USS Bennington) who worked for JL Hammett Co. at the time of his death.
