Siena (6-6-3, 3-1-2) enters today's contest playing its best soccer of the season. The Saints have posted three straight shutout victories to even their overall record, and move into third place in the conference standings with four league matches remaining. The top-six finishers qualify for the MAAC Championships which kick off Oct. 28.
With Wednesday's 4-0 victory at Saint Peter's, Siena has achieved a mid-season winning streak of three or more for the fourth consecutive season. The Saints reeled off five consecutive victories from Sept. 27 - Oct 11 last season, five straight in 2016, and six straight in 2015. Siena is 15-5 over its past 20 October matches dating back to mid-October 2015.
The Saints have been sparked by tremendous defensive play, as Siena leads the MAAC in all defensive categories during conference action. The Saints have allowed a total of just one goal over the team's first six conference matches spanning 580:26, and carries a 331:01 scoreless streak into today's match. Siena has registered clean sheets in four of their past five matches, and lead the MAAC in conference action with a 0.16 goals against average and a .976 save percentage. The Saints are in search of their fourth consecutive shutout today, which would tie the program record set Oct. 17 - Nov. 1, 2015.
Rider (7-4-2, 3-2-1) has won back-to-back matches to pull into a tie with Quinnipiac for the final playoff spot at the moment. The Broncs have been led by the dynamic scoring duo of Kourtney Cunningham (16) and Valeria Pascuet (15) who rank second and third in the MAAC in scoring respectively. Today's match features the two goalkeepers with the most saves in the MAAC, as Rider's Carmen Carbonell paces the conference with 84 stops, while Siena's
Taylor Dorado has made 82 saves.
The Broncs lead a tightly contested all-time series between the programs, 10-9-4. Rider had its seven-match unbeaten streak (5-0-2) in the series snapped last fall with the Saints' 1-0 victory in the regular season finale in New Jersey.
