Siena Water Polo was unable to take a second win of the season against Gannon in the rematch from last week when they fell 18-16.

"We need to develop a strong more consistent defense to make it through the first half of games," said head coach Tamara Perea. Our lack of depth keeps us at that deficit early on. We need to keep in sight in order to make it through all four quarters. I mean we've come out fighting in the fourth quarter but it's always just too little, too late. The team played with courage and heart this whole weekend. In my opinion, it takes a lot of guys to play with no bench, no goalie and to still jump in."

Diana Fernandez and Clare Bryar led the Saints with seven points each. Fernandez tallied two goals and five assists, while Bryar recorded four goals and three assists. Anna Borton notched five goals in the loss. Sophia Torres, who played in goal, recorded six saves and two steals.

It was a tight first period with the two teams tied 2-2 heading into the second period. Gannon jumped ahead following an 8-5 advantage in the second period. At halftime, Siena trailed 10-7. The Saints have proven to never be counted out trailing at the half.

While Gannon held a slight advantage in the third period and led 14-10 heading into the final frame it would not be over. The Saints came back in the final frame and outscored Gannon 6-4, with two of Anna Borton's goals coming in the final three minutes. However, Gannon would take the victory 18-16.

Siena will head to Poughkeepsie, New York on Sunday, February 25 to take on Hartwick at 11 a.m.
