With under five minutes to play, Matt Frost completed the hat-trick and scored the game-winning goal as Quinnipiac edged Siena Men's Lacrosse 12-11 in the league opener. Anthony Tebbano tallied a career-high 19 saves, his fourth game with 10 or more saves.
Keenan Cook opened up the scoring with his 10th goal of the season, he has now scored in all five games played for the Saints (2-3, 0-1) this season. Brian Felman led Quinnipiac (4-3, 1-0) with four goals to tie the game for the first time early in the first quarter. Siena would then tack on two goals with one coming from faceoff specialist Jake Shapiro.
The two teams would exchange goals back and forth and following three man-up goals, two for Quinnipiac and one for Siena, the two teams would be tied for the third time at four after one quarter played.
The Bobcats took control in the second quarter holding the Saints scoreless to lead 8-4 at the half. Two of Quinnipiac's four goals in the second frame would be man-up goals.
Quinnipiac opened the scoring in the second half to lead 9-4, but the Saints turned on the engines and got things started as Chris Robertson extended his scoring streak to 19 games. Nick Casner, who ended the game with two goals, including a man-down goal, and one assist recorded all of his points in a three-minute span as Siena trail by just one, 9-8.
Robertson would then record his second hat-trick of the season with his two goals to tie the game then put the Saints in the lead 10-9 with 1:50 left in the third quarter. Siena would outscore the Bobcats 6-1 to lead 10-9 after three frames played.
For the fifth time of the game, the score would be tied at 10 with a Quinnipiac goal. The Bobcats would jump back ahead before the sixth and final tie of the game with a goal from Brian Prunty, who scored two for Siena. Frost notched the final goal for Quinnipiac to lead 12-11. In the waning minutes, Jake Marcus would cause a Bobcat turnover and Siena called timeout with 18 seconds remaining. Mike Reilly was able to get off a good shot, but Quinnipiac's keeper, Jake Zukauskas, would tally his seventh save the Bobcats victory.
Siena will host Canisius at Siena Turf Field on Saturday, March 24 at 1 p.m.
