LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - To match their longest win streak since 2009, the Siena Women's Lacrosse team defeated sister school St. Bonaventure 12-11 on Wednesday afternoon. The four-game win streak has been part of the Saints four-game homestand.
Reigning MAAC Rookie of the Week, Kerry Gerety, led the Saints (4-3) with four points coming from two goals and two assists. The Albany native also had three ground balls and five draw controls. Alexis Deaken and Maggie Cifarelli both tallied three points with Deaken's coming on three goals while Cifarelli notched two goals and dished out one assist.
Rylee Arnold led St. Bonaventure (0-8) with four points off two goals and two assists. Morgan Conroy tallied 18 saves for the Bonnies.
St. Bonaventure opened up the scoring, but Gerety put up her first goal of the game to tie it, 1-1. The Bonnies came right back and took the lead. However, the Saints would add on two from Deaken and Julia Sardella to lead 3-2 and would never give up the advantage. Siena ended the frame with three goals from Julia Pelcher, Sardella and Cifarelli to lead 9-5.
The Bonnies won the second half opening draw and tallied a goal on the opening possession. Gerety then followed that up and won the following draw and dished it to Alexandra Rekos to keep Siena ahead 10-6. St. Bonaventure then tallied the next four goals to tie the game at 10.
Gerety and Pelcher then put the Saints ahead 12-10 with just under 11 minutes to play. St. Bonaventure made it a one-goal game 12-11 following a goal from Ashley Easterday with over 3 mins. Siena was able to hold on to take the victory 12-11.
Siena will open league play on Saturday, March 24 at Fairfield. Gametime is set for 1 p.m.
