In their final non-conference road matchup of the season, Siena Women's Lacrosse fell 13-3 to UMBC on Wednesday afternoon. Junior goalie Sammy Horton stopped 13 shots to move into third in Siena history for career saves with 356.
UMBC (8-3) got the ball rolling right away as Lauren McDonald won the opening draw and ran the ball down for her first of two goals scored. The Retrievers scored five unanswered goals from four different scorers to lead 5-0 with just under 13 minutes to play in the first half.
Julia Pelcher put the Saints (4-5) on the board with a free position goal. UMBC would hold the Saints to just that one goal scored in the first half as they rattled four unanswered goals, including two in the final minute of play to lead 9-1 at the half. Sara Moeller led all scorers with five points coming from two goals and three assists which all game in the first half of play.
UMBC opened the second half with four goals to lead 12-1. Carolyn Jamison capped off a hat-trick with three goals, while also dishing out one assisting recorded five draw controls and causing four turnovers. Alexis Deaken extended her goal-scoring streak to 20 games off a free-position goal as the Saints trailed 12-2.
McDonald added her final goal of the game to put UMBC up 13-2. Kerry Gerety scored the final goal of the game with a dish from Pelcher as the Saints fell 13-3 at UMBC.
Deaken led the Saints with four of their six draw controls and caused one turnover, while Emily Fiorillo led the Saints with two caused turnovers.
Siena will host Bryant on Saturday, March 31 at 4 p.m. in their final non-conference matchup of the season.
