Siena Women's Lacrosse fell 11-5 at Iona on Saturday afternoon. Alexis Deaken extended her goal-scoring streak to 23 games.
Deaken tallied four of Siena's (4-8, 0-3) five goals in the game. Annie Brennan scored the fifth goal. Julia Sardella and Maggie Cifarelli each dished out an assist in the contest. Sammy Horton made 14 saves in goal.
Pamela Giordano led all scorers with five goals and one assist for six points (7-6, 2-2). Jenna Tolzmann tallied a hat-trick while registering three draw controls.
Iona would open up scoring on a free-position goal scored by Kaitlyn Becker. Deaken then scored the next two goals, with one being a free-position, to put Siena up 2-1 early in the contest. Giordano would score two of her five goals in a 14-second span to give the Gaels a 3-2 lead Deaken tied the score at three with just over 3:30 left in the first half.
Iona would tally two more goals in the final 3:30 minutes of play in the opening frame. The Gaels led 5-3 at halftime.
Giordano opened up scoring in the second half, but Deaken would keep the game close as she registered her fourth and final goal early in the final frame as Siena trailed 6-4. Annie Brennan picked up her ninth goal of the season following a free-position goal by Giordano to keep it a two-goal game, 7-5. Iona would score four unanswered goals to take the victory 11-5.
Siena remains on their three-game road trip as they head to Niagara University, New York on Wednesday, April 11 to take on Niagara at 4 p.m.
