The Siena Men's and Women's Cross Country teams got their season underway at the Marist Invitational on Saturday morning. The women's team put up the top performance of the day, finishing second of six teams putting up 67 points, while the men finished third of four and putting up 62 points.
The top performance came from
Sydney Johnson, who came in fourth putting up a time of 18:30.02. That time would catapult Johnson to the sixth highest time in program history in the 5K. Senior
Sarah Forman also put up a strong time, finishing 10
th with a time of 19:14.8. Rounding out the top three performances for the Saints was
Monica Strain, as she would crack the top 20 with a 19
th place finish, putting up a time of 19:48.9.
The men's squad was led with a fifth place finish from
Stosh Davis and an eight place finish from
William Randall. Davis put up the top time coming in at 19:28.4 while Randall timed at 19:33.9. Finishing just outside the top ten was
Luciano Fiore, as he came in 11
th with a time of 19:39.0 to round out the green and gold's top three.
"There were a lot of bright spots to take away from today," said head coach
John Kenworthy. "Everyone had their own race plan, but I thought we executed extremely well and got a lot out of our first competition. It's clear the group has done their homework this summer and we are poised for a great fall. Now we just need to keep building from here."
The Saints return to the course next Saturday, as they play host to the Siena Cross Country Invitational. The event will take place at The Crossings of Colonie, with the first race taking off at 9:45 a.m.
