Wednesday's showdown pits the two premiere women's soccer programs in the MAAC this decade. Siena (4-6-3, 2-1-1) and Monmouth (6-2-2, 4-0) have combined to win six of the league's nine MAAC Championships this decade, and have each won 10 postseason contests to tie each other for the most in league action since 2010. Siena Head Coach
Steve Karbowski recently became the first coach in conference history with 100 MAAC Regular Season wins, while Monmouth's Dr. Krissy Turner ranks fifth all-time in league history with 57 victories despite the Hawks not joining the MAAC until 2013.
Siena enters play looking to build off consecutive come-from-behind 2-1 wins. The Saints scored twice in the final 20 minutes last Wednesday to top Canisius, and rallied to tie Iona in the 79th minute before prevailing in overtime Saturday. Siena improved to an impressive 9-2-6 over their past 17 overtime matches with Saturday's win. The Saints are 4-1-3 over their past eight matches, and have now rallied late in the second half to either win or tie each of their past four matches in which they've achieved a positive result.
Siena returns to the Capital Region Wednesday to continue a pivotal stretch where the Saints play four of five at home. Siena has boasted a 72-24-13 (.720) mark within the friendly confines of Siena Field over the past 13 seasons.
Monmouth arrives in the Capital Region having won five straight, beginning with an impressive 4-0 win at then 25th ranked Texas on Sept. 15. The Hawks have surrendered a total of just four goals in 10 matches this season - and no more than one goal in any single match - to rank third nationally in goals against average (0.32). The three-time defending MAAC Champions and unanimous preseason favorites carry a 15-match MAAC winning streak into play - including 13 straight in regular season action - while outscoring conference foes by a 51-5 margin. Overall, Monmouth has amassed a 57-4-3 (.914) mark in MAAC Regular Season contests since joining the league in 2013.
The Hawks have captured eight of nine all-time matchups against the Saints - with all having coming since Monmouth joined the MAAC - while outscoring Siena by a 24-8 margin. However, the Saints' lone victory in the series was one of the biggest in program history when No. 6 seed Siena upset the top-seeded Hawks 2-1 on their home field in the 2015 MAAC Semifinals on the way to the school's second and most recent MAAC Championship.
