The Siena Saints men's and women's track team opened up the 2019 MAAC indoor Track & Field Championships at the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center. The Green and Gold men sit 5
th overall, while the women sit 8
th overall after day one of the event.
The top performance would come from sophomore
Camryn Johnson, who scored points with a seventh place overall finish in the women's 5000m with a time of 17:31.69. Also finishing strong in the women's 5000m would be
Carolyn Pellegrini and
Carissa Kahn, as they finished 11
th and 12
th in the event. Freshman
Allison Hill put up a new PR as well as the top women's finish in the 800m, putting up a time of 2:21.16 for a 15
th place overall finish.
Julia Bryant would finish 15
th in the event with a time of 2:28.21, and
Shannon Bergin would also set a new personal PR with a time of 2:29.78 in a 23
rd place finish.
Monica Strain would be the top finishing Saint in the women's mile run, as she finished 14
th with a time of 5:11.00. In the women's distance medley, the quad of Strain, Bryant,
Morgan Serkes and
Sarah Forman brought home a sixth place finish with a time of 12:31.78.
For the men,
Luciano Fiore ran his way into the 800m final on Sunday, as he ran a 1:57.12, coming in third place in the event. In the mile, junior
Evans Kibet took home a sixth place finish with a time of 4:21.30 to qualify for the final as well. Senior
Daniel Medici was close to cracking the top 10 for a qualifying spot, finishing 11
th with a time of 4:23.19.
Stosh Davis,
William Randall, and Aiden Canvan all finished top 10 in the men's 5000m, as Davis and Randall combined for 7 team points with their top 8 finishes. The men's distance relay team of Fiore,
Michael Rautter, Jack O'Haha, and
Ryan Holland finished third overall, cliniching more points for the Saints.
The Saints return tomorrow for Day Two of the MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships at the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center in New York City. Things will kick off the blocks at approximately 5 p.m. with the men's and women's mile final. The Saints will also see action in the 800m final, 3000m, 4x800m, and 4x400m relays.
