Saints Host Stags at Chance for First Place in MAAC

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Saturday eyes to be one of the biggest games for Siena women's lacrosse in recent memory, as the Green and Gold vie for first place in the MAAC against the Fairfield Stags at Hickey Field Saturday afternoon. The opening draw will get things started around approximately 3 p.m. after the conclusion of the Siena men's lacrosse game. Siena will also honor their three seniors – Annie Fiorillo, Diana Bradbury, and Sammy Horton – prior to the game on field as well.

The winner of the game will have sole possession of first place in the MAAC, as the Saints would hold a half game lead over the Stags if victorious. Fairfield would hold a 1.5 game lead, and could clinch the number one seed with a win and Manhattan loss. The Saints are amongst one of the best season's in program history, sitting at nine wins which is their third best win total. Siena could tie their second-best total with a win Saturday, tying the 2015 mark of 10 wins.

Junior Annie Brennan scored four times and led the Siena Saints in a second half comeback as they topped the Quinnipiac Bobcats by a final score of 11-7 on Wednesday afternoon. The Saints are winners of three in a row, and all nine of their wins have come in the last 11 games. With the win, the Green and Gold clinched a spot in this year's MAAC Tournament for the first time since 2015.

Siena also saw a four-point night from redshirt freshman Kaitlyn Dowsett, as she scored three goals and an assist. Sophomore Kerry Gerety also scored twice with an assist, while Horton was solid in net with 10 saves in the win. With her appearance in the game, Horton tied the career games played mark for goalkeepers in program history, and looks to set the new career mark on Saturday.

The Stags are 10-3 overall on the season, and 5-0 in MAAC play. Fairfield has won six games in a row dating back to March 20 when they defeated Sacred Heart. In the MAAC, they have defeated Quinnipiac, Niagara, Manhattan, Marist, and most recently, Monmouth. They defeated the Hawks 13-12 in regulation on Wednesday afternoon.

Siena and Fairfield are meeting for the 25th time in program history, with the Stags owning a 22-2 advantage over the Saints. The Green and Gold's last win over the Stags came in 2013 in an 8-5 win at Hickey Field. Siena's only other win came in 2005, which was their best season in program history with 11 wins and their only MAAC regular season co-championship. They defeated the Stags 14-12 at Hickey Field on that occasion.
