Siena Men's Golf Freshman Jared Nelson birdied four times on the back-nine and six overall to lead the team individually after round one at the 2019 MAAC Championships in Lake Buena Vista, Florida Thursday. Overall, the Saints shot +12, 300 as a team to finish day one in fifth place, two strokes behind Canisius (+10, 298).

One year after the Green and Gold boasted the tournament's Individual Medalist in Michael Christifulli, Nelson capped his day at -1, 71 to record his seventh round of par or better this season and tie golfers from Rider and Manhattan for third place.

Following Nelson, the Saints saw two other members of its five-man competition squad finish inside the top-20 after the first of three rounds on the par-72, 6891-yard Magnolia Golf Course on the campus of Disney World, where the event is being held for the fifth consecutive year. Coming off last week's individual medalist finish at the Yale Spring Invitational, sophomore Jack Brown birdied four times to card +2, 74, landing him in a three-way split for 13th place Taking the course for the fourth time in his career, senior co-captain Jack Bellardini made up ground with a birdie on the 515-yard par-5 hole 10, shooting +5, 77 to finish in a four-way split for 20th.

Rounding out the golfers representing the Saints in their 30th appearance at the MAAC Championships were freshman Jack Whitaker (+6, 78) and senior Co-Captain Jack Downey (+8, 80), who concluded day one in splits for 24th and 36th, respectively.

Siena will take the course for round two of the 54-hole event on Friday, April 18, with action on the day beginning at 7:00 AM, and the first Saint teeing off from hole 10 at 7:45 AM.
