Defending NEC Champion LIU Brooklyn Defeats Siena Baseball

Corliss Smashes First Collegiate Home Run

Defending Northeast Conference Champion LIU Brooklyn scored all 13 of their runs over a three-inning span to defeat Siena Baseball 13-2 at LIU Field. Craig Corliss registered his first collegiate home run in defeat for the Saints.

Both Siena (11-25) starter James Flood and LIU Brooklyn (16-21) hurler Chris Buehler tossed four shutout innings apiece before the bats came to life in the fifth.

Tim Carroll staked the Saints to a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly to score Ryan McGee, but the Blackbirds responded in the home half of the fifth inning with a decisive seven-run frame. Brock Hallum delivered a two-run double and Andrew Smith added a two-run triple to highlight the frame in which LIU Brooklyn was also aided by a pair of Siena errors.

The Blackbirds added a pair of runs in the sixth and topped things off with a four-run seventh, sandwiched around the Corliss blast in the top of the seventh.

Zach Durfee singled to extend his on-base streak to 24 straight games for the Saints, while Brian Kelly added a pair of hits to send his streak to 22 straight.

Smith drove in four runs, Alex Briggs knocked in three, and Hallum reached base four times and scored three runs to pace LIU Brooklyn which has won six of eight.

Siena continues its busy five-game week and opens a season long seven-game homestand when the Saints host Dartmouth Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Connors Park
