HANOVER, NH – Continuing off Saturday's opening round success, Siena Men's Golf tied a program record for low 36-hole score in round two of the Dartmouth Invitational on Sunday. The Saints shot 287 in the final round to conclude play at +4, 572, matching their 36-hole performance at the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational in 2016.
"After losing seven players from last year's team, we're off to a great start," Head Coach Steven Jensen Said. "Jack Brown is showing why he is one of the best players in each and every tournament. Jack Tobin is off to a fast start by being in the top five in each of the first two tournaments."
Overall, Siena took home fifth place as a team for its first top-5 finish of the season, finishing two strokes ahead of Harvard to do so. The team boasted a pair of top-10 individual finishes, with junior captain Jack Brown and freshman Jack Tobin each doing so for the second time this season.
Picking up where he left off after carding -5, 66 on Saturday, Brown laid down another five birdies to go -1, 70 in round two, ultimately concluding the weekend in a tie for third place with Rhode Island's Chris Francoeur. The Hudson, New Hampshire native's two-round output of -6, 136 now stands as the second-lowest in program history, with three 134's including his own last season ahead. Tobin was not far behind, birdying four times on the par 71, 6472-yard course at the Hanover Country Club to also shoot 70 and split with URI's Brandon Gills for fifth place.
Wrapping play in his second collegiate tournament, freshman Moritz Weigold carded three birdies to finish +1, 72 on the day, ultimately hopping 13 spots to tie for 49th place. Rounding out the squad's five-man competition team at the event were freshman Nolan Crowley and junior Pudge Williams, who each shot +9, 151 to land in a tie for 57th.
Competing as an individual, sophomore newcomer Brody Yates concluded his Siena debut with +4, 75 in the final round, landing in a split for 41st place overall with +5, 147.
"We have a team that's very talented and any of the other guys can be in low for our team at any time," Jensen added.
Siena will look to continue a solid start to its 2019-20 campaign Sept. 29 – Oct. 1, when it tees off at the UConn Invitational at GREATHORSE, held in Hampden, Massachusetts.
