UTICA, NY – Members of the Siena Men's & Women's Indoor Track teams combined to give the squads a pair of fourth place finishes at the Utica College Invitational Saturday, continuing competition in the 2020 campaign. The Saints' men scored 67 points, while the women put up 54, with one runner from each team taking home an individual event win from the Hutton Sports & Recreation Center in Utica, NY.
Among the team's nine top-3 finishes between the two teams, freshman Sophia Vinciguerra won the women's 3000-meter run by a wide margin with a time of 10:31.48, while senior Matthew Jacques took home the title in the men's 1000-meter run with a time of 2:38.68.
Junior Holly Bednarek led off the women's side of the meet with a second-place finish in the 500-meter dash, putting forth a time of 1:24.89. Sophomore Julia Bryant then placed third in the 800-meter run with a 2:26.65. Junior captain Morgan Serkes' solid competition day was highlighted with a second-place finish in the women's 1000-meter run (3:09.89). Serkes would also place fourth in the women's mile.
The women's pairing of Bednarek, Bryant, Junior Olivia Durant and sophomore Allison Hill raced to second in the 4x400 meter relay, recording a time of 4:24.87.
On the men's side, the group took each of the top-four spots in the men's 1000-meter run, with sophomore Jacob Greski (2:40.37) and freshmen Brandon Olden (2:40.82) and Nathan Poirier (2:41.28) following immediately behind Jacques, respectively in the event.
The men's relay team of junior Aidan Canavan, freshman Aidan Gillooley, sophomore Owen Walker and freshman Peter Alden took third place in the 4x200 meter relay, recording a time of 2:01.23.
Siena's indoor track season continues next weekend at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational in Boston, Massachusetts. The women will compete on Friday, January 24, while the women will race on Saturday, January 25.
