Women’s Lacrosse Schedule Released

Saints Set to Play 14-game Slate; Sights Set on MAAC Championship

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Women's Lacrosse is back for the 2021 season with much anticipation. After having their traditional 2020 spring season cut short due to the continuing health and safety concerns surrounding the global COVID-19 pandemic, the Saints are now scheduled to hit the ground running with their slate of 2021 matchups.

"We're extremely excited to get back out on the field and are deeply appreciative of the efforts extended by both Siena and the MAAC conference to make this season a possibility despite all of the continuing challenges presented by the pandemic," said head coach Abigail Rehfuss. "It's been tough to go nearly a year without a facing an opponent, but the time away has given us a chance to revitalize our love for the sport and hunger for game day."

Siena is slated to get the program's 25th varsity season underway on Saturday, Mar. 6 when they host Canisius at Hickey Field in a Saturday/Sunday doubleheader. The Saints' 12-match MAAC schedule features an even breakdown of six contests apiece both home and away, with all but one game coming in a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.

Siena's other home games are set against Quinnipiac on Friday, Apr. 2 and vs. Monmouth on Friday, Apr. 23. Siena will also play host to Marist at home in a two-day series on both Friday, Apr. 16 and Sunday, Apr. 18. The Saints' road contests are at Manhattan (Mar. 13), at Niagara (Mar. 19 & 21), at Fairfield (Apr. 9), at Marist (Apr. 28), and at Iona (May 1) to conclude the season. Game times will be announced in the near future.

The MAAC Championships will be held May 7 (semifinals), and May 9 (championship), with the playoff format to be determined at a later date.

Siena returns plenty of firepower in graduate student Annie Brennan, along with seniors Kerry Gerety and Nicole McNeely. All three have earned All-MAAC honors in the past, while senior Emily Pomeroy will anchor the defense. Redshirt junior Kaitlyn Dowsett will also play a major role up front on attack with McNeely.

Rehfuss added, "The last conference game we played was the 2019 MAAC Championship game, so needless to say we're really looking forward to squaring off again against some tough conference rivals. The 2021 season will definitely be one to remember, and we're ready and excited for it."
