Wednesday's MAAC Quarterfinal showdown is the marquee matchup pitting two conference heavyweights head-to-head. The two winningest programs in MAAC Tournament history, Siena (12-4) and Iona (9-5) have combined to win 18 of the first 39 MAAC Tournament Championships.Â
The MAAC Co-Regular Season Champion Saints are the No. 1 seed for the second straight year. Siena is 21-8 all-time in the quarterfinal round of the MAAC Tournament, and is looking to advance to the semifinals for the fifth time in the past six seasons.Â
Meanwhile the Gaels punched their ticket to the quarterfinals with a convincing 72-48 victory over eighth seeded Quinnipiac Tuesday night. The Gaels have won a record 12 MAAC titles, while posting a 58-27 (.682) all-time record in the Tournament.Â
Siena is in search of its first MAAC Tournament win over arch-nemesis Iona which has captured the first 10 matchups, although the Gaels were the higher seeded team in eight of those contests including the No. 1 seed four times.Â
