Siena Baseball claimed a doubleheader and series split at Quinnipiac. The Saints won Saturday's opener 8-6 in seven innings, while the Bobcats took the nightcap 9-5.
Game 1: Siena 8, Quinnipiac 6 (7)
Siena (5-11) erupted for all eight of its runs in the first inning and held on late to take the opener for the second straight day. The Saints sent 11 batters to the plate in the first, maximizing an early error by scoring all eight of their runs unearned with two outs.
Nick Melillo and
Devan Kruzinski delivered the big blows in the four-hit first, with Melillo notching a bases-clearing, three-run triple, while Kruzinski capped the frame with a two-run homer.
Quinnipiac (4-14) mounted a rally with six runs in the fifth, but
Arlo Marynczak came on to toss 2.1 scoreless and hitless innings to record the save.
Ben Seiler went the first 4.2 recording seven strikeouts to pick up the win.
Game 2: Quinnipiac 9, Siena 5
The Bobcats rallied with seven unanswered runs encompassing the sixth and seventh innings to secure the doubleheader and series split.
Siena scored four runs in the second highlighted by a bases-clearing, three-run double from
Bryce Mordecki to carry a 4-2 advantage into the home half of the sixth. But Quinnipiac reclaimed the lead with a four-run sixth punctuated by a go-ahead three-run homer by Colton Bender before adding three insurance runs in the seventh.
Jayden Metz struck out his first seven batters of the season over 6.1 innings for the Saints.
Siena is scheduled to return to action Wednesday for doubleheader action at Marist beginning at noon.
