Saints Fall in Series Opener at Monmouth

Hawks Sweep Twin Bill

Dan Klepchick, Trey Dombroski, and Ryan Steckline combined to toss 16 shutout innings while allowing just nine total hits as Monmouth blanked Siena Baseball in a series-opening doubleheader sweep on the Jersey Shore. The trio collectively allowed just two walks while striking out 24 as the Hawks took the opener 6-0 in seven innings and the nightcap 5-0.
 
Game 1: Monmouth 6, Siena 0 (7)
Monmouth (9-1) sent 10 men to the plate, scoring five runs in the first en route to the series-opening victory. The Hawks tallied six of their 10 hits in the opening frame, with three different players knocking in runs.
 
Mike McCully settled in after the opening inning and went the distance while striking out five for Siena (3-7). Jake Hall, Devan Kruzinski, and Evan St. Claire accounted for the Saints' three hits.
 
Klepchick tossed the complete game shutout for Monmouth, allowing just three hits without walking a batter and striking out nine.
 
Game 2: Monmouth 5, Siena 0
The Hawks broke open an early pitching duel with three runs in the sixth and added two more in the seventh to finish off the series-opening sweep.
 
John Lumpinski went the first 5.2 innings for Siena and struck out seven. Ryan McGee paced the offense with two of the six hits for the Saints who've dropped four straight.
 
Harry Padden produced a two-run single in the sixth and Alex Barker added a two-run homer in the seventh to highlight the scoring for Monmouth which has won nine straight while outscoring its opponents by a 53-17 margin.
 
Dombroski went the first seven innings scattering five hits while striking out 10 without issuing a walk for the Hawks, while Steckline went the final two innings.
 
Siena will look to bounce back tomorrow when the teams conclude their Easter Weekend series with doubleheader action starting at noon.
 
NOTE: Following today's games it was announced that Siena's doubleheader scheduled for Wednesday at Marist has been postponed as a result of Marist College extending its campus-wide pause through April 7.
